To AI OR Not AI:

That is the Question

(Narrator No-No’s and Do-Do’s)

AI alternatives to Real Human Voice Over are proliferating. Does it work? Will “Computer Voices” replace an actual human being? …

I admit it, I am addicted to viewing Social Media sites with video such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc.

Being one who get a kick out just how foolish some people can be or learning from others instructions and/or mistakes makes me better. What I can NOT stand however is the mistake Creators make by using a computer generated voice replicant (Artificial Intelligence = AI).

O.K., the AI sounds almost real until it comes to the end of a written line in a paragraph or the pronunciation. Then there is the unnecessary pause which sets my ears off. There is no emotion or empathy with the AI voice either. It takes just a second or two to realize that the “voice” is computer generated and I click – off. Next!

Referring to something that has been done or repeated so often that it has become annoying or tiresome – ad nauseum or repeating the same lines over and over again as the video continues is also a sure sign the copy was compiled by a computer as well. How do you feel about that?

A Professional Voice Over artist can convey the emotions of the words and their meanings. Transporting a fluent flow of words which envelopes the listener or viewer and captivates their hearts and minds is how communication works. Voice Over is an art and cannot be duplicated by a computer “speaking” in monotone. An Audiobook would be laborious if given to AI to create the sound. An explainer narration could put listeners to sleep before the computer makes a point.

What do you do to infuse your video content with a sound which viewers and listeners will want to hear? The answer is simple: use real human talent. Sharing the personal emotion of the words is what sells the sizzle.

Feeling how the sound of a word or set of words affects you may only be shared by a real voice. It is something which is sensed in our souls and ears.

Your mileage may vary, but for me I like the human touch (or sound) when listening.
